irl date: June 3, 2021 the Bull League held an expansion draft to allow two new teams, the Atlanta Fire Ants and the Denver Grizzlies, to build their rosters prior to debuting in the Metropolitan League for the 2025 season.
The draft was held online using StatsPlus.
Coming off of the 2024 season, the Bull League had noted increased interest from managers through the regular Twitch streams. The league decided that two teams would be added to the Metropolitan League, which had liberal requirements of any major city in the US or Canada that was not close to existing markets.
Atlanta, Georgia, and Denver, Colorado, were chosen as the expansion cities.
Atlanta had never hosted a team in the Bull League before, while Denver had previously been the home of the Denver Highlanders/Danger from 1995 until 2018.
The draft was a "serpentine" style draft of 35 rounds. For each round, the teams would alternate the order of picks starting with Atlanta - Denver in Round 1, then Denver - Atlanta in Round 2, and so on. The initial pick was chosen at random by the commissioner.
Each of the existing Bull League clubs were allowed to protect 23 players from their organization, over and above the automatic protection afforded to any player with less than 4 years of service time.
