Alex Maldonado
Alex Maldonado is a Puerto Rican professional baseball pitcher who currently plays for the Toronto Nomads in the Bull League's Lake League (LL). He made his major-level debut with the Kingston Cannons in 2013.[1] Maldonado was named to the All-Star Game roster for the Lake League for the first time in his career in 2017 with the Nomads. ContentsTeam HistoryKingston Battlements/Cannons: 2004-2016Maldonado was discovered as a young international amateur by Kingston scouts in Puerto Rico in 2004, eventually being named the #64 prospect in the league by 2009.[1] He rose through the Kingston minor league system, eventually making a debut in 2013, pitching ⅔ of an inning with one strikeout and one walk. He was sent down again, however, and despite throwing two 4-hit shutouts at AAA-level and AA_level over the next few seasons, was never called up again. He became a free agent at the end of 2016. Toronto Nomads: 2017-PresentThe Nomads signed Maldonado out of free agency, inking him to a minor league contract in February 2017.[1] Maldonado pitched in 7 spring training games for the Nomads, making no starts, but holding an ERA of 1.29 after 14 innings, and tallying 9 strikeouts.He was placed on the 40-man roster in April and debuted in a relief appearance against the New York Dragons on May 17, coming in for the second inning after starter Jake Robertson left due to an injury. He completed 3⅔ scoreless innings while striking out 4 and only allowing one walk, earning his first career win decision.[2][1] He continued to have stellar relief appearances, no allowing a single run until June 22 against Boston. By the All-Star break he was 4-1, with a 1.11 ERA and 0.99 WHIP, and was voted to the All-Star Game for the Lake League.
