Left fielder

The left fielder (often abbreviated to LF or 7 in baseball scoring) is a outfield defensive player normally positioned on the left side of the outfield, behind the third baseman and the shortstop.

This player is often the second best outfielder on the team because of the high number of right-handed batters who tend to "pull" batted balls towards the left side of the field. They must be able to react to a hard hit ball and cover a vast expanse of the outfield, similarly to the center fielder.

In addition, they normally need a strong throwing arm, as do all outfielders, in order to send a ball back into the infield particularly for potential plays at second base or home.
