-All activities in Destiny 2 can be played cooperativelybut the real test of a Fireteam’s comradery comes in Strikeswhich Destiny 2 provides plenty of. There are five Strikes in Destiny 2 (six if you’re on PS4), and each is meticulously crafted to test a FireteamTheyre far more exciting than the Strikes in vanilla Destiny and dole out some quality lootThose looking for challenge and some of the top-of-the-line loot will want to try the Nightfallhoweverwhich is unlocked later in the game.+The Strike is a good place to start. It reveals a little more of the world players can expectshowcasing great improvements to Destiny. The most notable thing about the Strike is just how open it felt. Instead of running casually down one big hallway that twist and turnsthe Strike makes use of all the space availableThe number of paths available was astounding and never has it been so easy to get separated from the group, meaning communication (or keeping an eye out) is keyParty members cant just run ahead to go off and do their own thing; the Strike actually requires some teamwork and that’s a good thingMore than few times, imminent danger is awaiting any careless Guardian who might think "I’ve got this." The mechanics of it all also helped with this feeling, giving the Strike enough complexity, but not so much that it felt bogged down. It’s hard to get an exact readthoughbecause this is only one Strike and without leveling of any sort, it might just seem tough. This is how every Destiny expansion has played out. Things feel like they were getting more challenging, but level up enough gear and light, and those Strikes become cake-walks. I even encountered some of this already, by just breezing past the giant drill without stopping. What looked like a challenging set piece became just a set piece. No interaction required.
  
-Much of the gameplay changes lie under the hoodPrimarySpecial and Heavy weapon classifications have been replaced with Kinetic, Energy and Power weapon classificationsWhile many may lament the fact that Sniper RiflesFusion Rifles and Shotguns have been moved to the Power Weapon slot, the changes made to the classifications are ultimately smart. Players now have more viable weapons to choose from, making it easier to melt enemy shields with Energy Weapons, pound unshielded enemies with Kinectic Weaponry and better control crowds with Power Weapons. New gun types like the submachine gun and grenade launcher are thrown in to add more variety and are quite fun to use.+Weapon rarity remains identical to DestinyBasic (white)uncommon (green) and rare (blue) will be your most common drops while playing the campaignOnce you reach level 20legendary (purple) and highly coveted exotic (yellow) weapons will begin dropping.
  
-Dead Space 3’s compromises were bit more subtle but they still resulted in a not-so-minor departure for the series. Where the first two games were horror games first and shooters second, Dead Space 3 was the opposite. It traded careful resource management and situational weapons for resource crafting and all-purpose creations. Rather than a tense experience that required its players to think on the fly, players got an occasionally startling but overall leisurely romp through an undead ice planet. Once players acquired enough resources to craft a gun with both long and short range firing modes, any semblance of genuine scares and vulnerability went right out the airlockSupposedly, Isaac isn’t even alone for most of the game thanks to his partner, Carver, appearing out of the ether during every other cutscene. Just like with Fallout 4 and [[https://Www.Destiny2Focus.com/|Destiny 2 beginner Guide]] 2, Dead Space 3 represented a shift in genre for the sake of more mainstream appeal. The semblance of the game its fans loved was still there, but that’s all it was: a semblance. The traits that made it uniquethat attracted a fanbase in the first place, those were either severely watered down or cut out entirely in the name of attracting more casual players.+While including loot box that doesn’t award duplicates is better than only having completely random loot boxesdoing so doesn’t take away from the fact that Bungie’s game is still highly encouraging its players to engage with loot boxes instead of actually earning lootIt also doesn’t take away from the fact that they’re still pushing random microtransactions in a game with a sixty dollars price tag and paid DLCWhat’s morethey don't appear to see anything wrong with this.
  
-Having done every previous raid in the first Destiny, it was exciting looking forward to the first raid for Destiny 2. What would it be thematically? How would it operate with challenging fireteam of six? What would the loot be? Would it be so fun that it would call Guardians back for multiple run throughs? And then Leviathan droppedIt looked spectacularchallenging and unlike any raid seen yet. It was a freaking massive space fish eating a planet; it screams ominous!+Assassin’s Creed II, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and Mass Effect 2 are some of the greatest sequels of all time, but why? Each of these games had a flawed predecessor that showed great promise, which the developers were able to take and refine into strengths. With Destiny 2Bungie is looking to achieve something similar. After three years of growing pains throughout the Destiny 1 era, the developer is finally ready to look to the future with a numbered sequelWith an actual campaignnew worlds to explore and an update to the game’s progression systems, is Destiny 2 the sequel fans deserve or is the number at the end warrantless?
  
-At the moment, there’s probably no finer example of this than Destiny 2 . Among the many problems afflicting it, the most basic is probably the fact that, at its core, the game is compromiseIt’s a watered-down version of what made the original Destiny enjoyable, done for the sake of attracting more casual audience. Annoying grind or not, Destiny 1 was more about the hunt than it was the acquisition. Ratherit might be better to say that the hunt was what made the acquisition fun. The hunt took commitment though. Gathering exoticraid and perfectly-rolled gear took time. It took patience. It meant throwing oneself into the grind until they finally earned the prize they sought. The lack of content variety was certainly annoying, but the way Destiny was set up made the effort feel rewarding all the same. Not everyone enjoys this sort of game thoughIt’s not as easy to drop in and play as, say, Call of Duty or Halo 5. This is what Bungie "fixed" in Destiny 2. Nowthe hunt is basically gone. Every piece of gear one can get is exactly the same as everyone else’s. "Rare" loot can be earned by literally doing nothing, exotics no longer feel special and character builds are practically nonexistent. It’s much easier to jump in as a new or casual player, but why should they bother? In its pursuit of the casual audience, Destiny 2 wound up sacrificing the very thing that made the original fun engage in: the actual hunt and effort required to obtain rare loot. Destiny 2 isn’t the only game to suffer in this way though. Just look at Fallout 4 or even Dead Space 3.+While there no new classes, each of the three returning classes get new subclassHunters get Arcstrider, Titans get Sentinel and Warlocks get Dawnblade. Each of the new subclasses is joy to use and players can unlock their other Destiny 1 subclasses (GunslingerStriker and Voidwalker) and The Taken King subclasses (NightstalkerSunbreaker and Stormcaller) if the new ones aren't their cup of teaEach returning class has been tweaked to make them more viable in Destiny 2, and both new and old are fun to play.

The Fallen’s Wretch lunges at you with their long spearThe Cabal are the key beneficiaries here with multiple new enemy types. The Incendior uses giant flamethrower to ignite the floor around players and War Beasts gallop in on four legs to tear out Guardians throatsThe Hive and the Vexwhile getting some new variants of existing types, haven’t gotten the same amount of attention as the Cabal or Fallen.

One mission you may be driving vehiclein another youre escorting a valuable object and then you may be teleporting around areas to save a friendThere’s a lot more variety on display in Destiny 2’s missions.+Which brings this full circle back to the Strike. With only one Strike to tackle, any Guardian checking out the beta will probably play this a few times. It was with my second group that more problems started to crop up. The beta is a stress test on Destiny 2’s system, so having such sparse…everything...became more noticeable. There is a limited arsenal in Destiny 2 at the moment, and when the party hit the boss, we started to wipe. After the third wipe I began switching out weapons in every combination imaginable, but we just couldn’t land it. Having played Destiny since vanilla, I’d say the skills are there. But here is Destiny 2 presenting itself as challenging,  [[https://www.destiny2focus.com/articles/the-void-hunter-s-melee-void-my-destiny-2-journey-in-2025.html|Void Hunter Melee Rework]] but there is always that inkling that it’s a façadeAgainevery Destiny expansion has done this. New encountersnew mechanics, new gear. It makes it all seem like the game has changedbut level up enough, equip the right stuff and that boss that was causing so much grief becomes laughable. One can only hope that this beta is not tricking players into false experiencebut that wonbe revealed until SeptemberSo, for now it’s the waiting game.

 +Bungie did turn corner with the laying out of the plan moving forward for Destiny 2, which was a nice gesture, but showing us the content road ahead isn’t what earns trust back ; it’s the work put into Destiny 2. Guardians have been putting in the work of playing the game. Many couldn’t keep up with the grind, but those that stayed see that brighter tomorrow that every NPC is always gabbing about to whichever Guardian will listen.
