-The campaign mission was the "Homecoming" mission from the gameplay reveal. It's the first mission of Destiny and kicks things into action with a giant explosion. The Cabal’s Red Legion has launched a strike on the Last City in an attempt to steal the TravelerHomecoming is the perfect opening mission for Destiny 2illustrating just how much is changing between the new game and the old. There are epic moments, like helping Zavalla hold back waves of Cabal infantryinteractions with NPCs and actual set piece moments taking place.+The Strike is a good place to start. It reveals a little more of the world players can expect, showcasing great improvements to Destiny. The most notable thing about the Strike is just how open it felt. Instead of running casually down one big hallway that twist and turns, the Strike makes use of all the space available. The number of paths available was astounding and never has it been so easy to get separated from the group, meaning communication (or keeping an eye out) is key. Party members can’t just run ahead to go off and do their own thing; the Strike actually requires some teamwork and that’s a good thingMore than a few times, imminent danger is awaiting any careless Guardian who might think "I’ve got this." The mechanics of it all also helped with this feeling, giving the Strike enough complexitybut not so much that it felt bogged down. It’s hard to get an exact read, though, because this is only one Strike and without leveling of any sortit might just seem tough. This is how every Destiny expansion has played out. Things feel like they were getting more challengingbut level up enough gear and light, and those Strikes become cake-walks. I even encountered some of this already, by just breezing past the giant drill without stopping. What looked like a challenging set piece became just a set piece. No interaction required.

Perhaps it's too little too late or maybe it could pull a healthy player base back in. For nowDestiny 2 is trying its best and is showing signs of quality of life for its future. Today it’s no surprise when buying a new game to be hit immediately by a patch, because what game makes it out of the door ever without having to go through a few updates and patches once it’s out the gate? Usually a major update will hit games freshly released within the first month followed by the steady stream of content and improvements. All of this is commonplace in the video game world and yet we as the audience still find time to get mad that games aren’t the perfect embodiment of what was envisioned. Developers do have a responsibility to be open with their audience and it does become a let down when certain things promised are nowhere to be seen or the game is more broken than let onSo let the saga of Destiny as it continues through the ages be a lessonone that we are seeing more and more frequently – Anthem is on the horizon, after all. But it's our responsibility as players and developers to keep the dialogue going to get the best experience possible from all sides. Good luck out there, Guardian.+Weapon rarity remains identical to Destiny. Basic (white), uncommon (green) and rare (blue) will be your most common drops while playing the campaignOnce you reach level 20legendary (purple) and highly coveted exotic (yellow) weapons will begin dropping.

-The other ill feeling aside from Destiny 2’s launch is knowing we're following path already taken that doesn'seem totally trustworthy. In factit's the same merry-go-round many have already been talking about. We've been here before, we've seen it. Yes, Destiny 2 will drop some Taken King sized expansion and it probably will fix a lot, but it just doesn'feel like enough or that Bungie or Activision are trying. Give us guardians something fresh, show us something shiny and new; not a lackluster experience that continually rides on the coat-tails (hardly any to begin withof the previous titleThe gimmick can work for anyone experiencing Destiny for the first time, but it's not going to work for the players that have been with Destiny since the beginning and the newcomers will pick up on thatWhen creating a space to play in togetherit's creating a social dialogue, which happens inside the game and out.+While including loot box that doesnaward duplicates is better than only having completely random loot boxesdoing so doesntake away from the fact that Bungie’s game is still highly encouraging its players to engage with loot boxes instead of actually earning lootIt also doesn’t take away from the fact that they’re still pushing random microtransactions in a game with a sixty dollars price tag and paid DLCWhat’s morethey don't appear to see anything wrong with this.

-Destiny nailed its gameplay mechanics perfectly out of the gate and those carry beautifully into Destiny 2. Aiming and shooting feel fantastic [[https://Www.Destiny2Focus.com/articles/wild-style-the-ultimate-double-fire-grenade-launcher-in-destiny-2-2025-meta.html|Solar Grenade Launcher]] while platforming has been tightened up with Guardians now able to clamber over ledgesJumping is still little floatybut the clambering should help players avoid some unnecessary deaths.+Assassin’s Creed II, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and Mass Effect 2 are some of the greatest sequels of all time, but why? Each of these games had a flawed predecessor that showed great promise, which the developers were able to take and refine into strengths. With Destiny 2, Bungie is looking to achieve something similarAfter three years of growing pains throughout the Destiny 1 era, the developer is finally ready to look to the future with numbered sequel. With an actual campaignnew worlds to explore and an update to the game’s progression systems, is Destiny 2 the sequel fans deserve or is the number at the end warrantless?

-At the time of this writingGuided Games is still in beta for Leviathan and with good reason, which will be discussed in a momentThe third week due to everyone having a life outside of video games, even fewer people could make it which meant it wasn’t happening with the group that we had been trying to attempt Leviathan with. Of my own volition I was determined to complete this dang raid. I turned back to Destinylfg.net and what I found was a pattern seen in Destiny’s community all gaming communities for far too long — elitism. Before reading any furthergo to Destinylfg.net right now and put the search to the Leviathan Raid either LFG or LFM…OK done? Did something stand out? Was it that most people searching said something along the lines of "LFG must be 305 PL quick run must know what to do" This will be the most common thing seen on this website: elitists looking for other elitists to run with and the challenge of Leviathan doesn’t help in the slightest. This not only deterred mea Destiny vet, but probably deters many new guardians as well. Why even try the raid if those who want to run it only want the best of the best? While I know Sherpas exist (people who will take the time to run new folks through the raid) — I’ve even run in a few Sherpa groups myself — they are few and far between. Only eleven percent of Destiny 2 players have completed Leviathan and I don’t see that number climbing much fasterbut only time will tell. When Destiny 2 launched around fifty percent of players in the first Destiny had completed some sort of raid content, which was after a three-year period with the game. Where does this leave Leviathan then? Not looking good and it doesn’t speak well to PvE endgame content for the future of Destiny 2.+While there no new classes, each of the three returning classes get a new subclass. Hunters get ArcstriderTitans get Sentinel and Warlocks get DawnbladeEach of the new subclasses is a joy to use and players can unlock their other Destiny 1 subclasses (GunslingerStriker and Voidwalker) and The Taken King subclasses (NightstalkerSunbreaker and Stormcaller) if the new ones aren't their cup of tea. Each returning class has been tweaked to make them more viable in Destiny 2, and both new and old are fun to play.

-Curse of Osiris’ plot can be beaten in two hours and is filled with so much repetition and so little expositionOsiriswho is the character this DLC is about, only shows up in the flesh for minute at the very endThe main villain is just an ominous robot who shows up and then is defeated through quick-time eventTo understand how lazy this story is, look no further than the ‘Deep Storage’ missionwhich is just a re-purposed ‘Pyramidion’ strikeThe campaign does hold one bright spot; SagiraOsiris’ ghostVoiced by Morena Baccarn (FireflyGotham)Sagira briefly becomes your companion during a large portion of the campaign and is a real delightCharming and well-written, it’s disappointing when she does finally leaveNolan North’s performance as Ghost has declined in quality over the yearsand it would have been great if players got the option to choose who they wanted as their companion.+Each species now has new enemy types that do change the flow of combat. The Fallens Wretch lunges at you with their long spear. The Cabal are the key beneficiaries here with multiple new enemy types. The Incendior uses a giant flamethrower to ignite the floor around players and War Beasts gallop in on four legs to tear out Guardians throatsThe Hive and the Vexwhile getting some new variants of existing types, haven’t gotten the same amount of attention as the Cabal or Fallen.
 +
+Which brings this full circle back to the Strike. With only one Strike to tackle, any Guardian checking out the beta will probably play this few timesIt was with my second group that more problems started to crop up. The beta is a stress test on Destiny 2’s system, so having such sparse…everything...became more noticeable. There is a limited arsenal in Destiny 2 at the momentand when the party hit the boss, we started to wipe. After the third wipe I began switching out weapons in every combination imaginable, but we just couldnt land it. Having played Destiny since vanillaI’d say the skills are there. But here is Destiny 2 presenting itself as challenging,  [[https://www.destiny2focus.com/articles/the-void-hunter-s-melee-void-my-destiny-2-journey-in-2025.html|Void Hunter Melee Rework]] but there is always that inkling that its a façadeAgainevery Destiny expansion has done thisNew encountersnew mechanicsnew gear. It makes it all seem like the game has changed, but level up enough, equip the right stuff and that boss that was causing so much grief becomes laughable. One can only hope that this beta is not tricking players into false experience, but that won’t be revealed until SeptemberSofor now it’s the waiting game.
 +
+Bungie did turn a corner with the laying out of the plan moving forward for Destiny 2which was a nice gesture, but showing us the content road ahead isn’t what earns trust back ; it’s the work put into Destiny 2. Guardians have been putting in the work of playing the game. Many couldn’t keep up with the grind, but those that stayed see that brighter tomorrow that every NPC is always gabbing about to whichever Guardian will listen.
