-(Image: https://www.freepixels.com/class=)Taking place on Nessus, one of the two new planets coming to Destiny 2 Void Hunter 2, the strike in the Beta is called The Inverted Spire and focuses on a Vex mind that has been awoken by the CabalNessus is a neat world that kind of combines the aesthetics of the Vex and the Cabal since it was originally machine world of the Vex's that has been invaded by the Cabal. The planet itself also has a new look to it, with a muted gray landscape, but one with lush red trees everywhere. It's a really cool look that brings a new feel to the game.+There was an interesting moment when we finally run into the Taken againAs new players, the game acted as if The Taken King never happenedWith the possibility of a lot of these moments popping up, how have you handled the whole new player vsreturning player conundrum?

-[JH]: So, that’s kind of outside the scope of where we have our involvementWe’re super dedicated to story, and the high-level development decisions based on classes or specializations happen amongst other teams. We try our best to have a good narrative wrapper around that decision-making. Our involvement in the PvP is to develop a strong character in Lord Shaxx. +The campaign kicks off with a bangReturning home to The Last Cityyou and your Ghost discover that the city has come under siege by the Cabal Empire’s Red LegionLed by Dominus Gaul, the Legion successfully captures the Travelercutting off all Guardian’connection to the LightWithout Light, you must become the rallying point for all surviving Guardians, re-unite the Vanguard and retake what Gaul has taken from you.
-It looks like Bungie is also playing with the idea of setting up a more regular competitive sceneThe most competitive Destiny game modes have been the Iron Banner and Trials of Osiris, which are both timed events. While this allows for an almost heightened sense of competitiveness during these timesit also sort of makes the down time less interestinglike it has smaller stakes. The Beta has two modes -- one called Quickplay, and one called Competitive. While it'not yet prevalent now how this will affect things, it sounds similar to Overwatch's systemIt could mean that Destiny 2 will also have seasonswhere you're ranked based on performance, which would be a great addition to the Crucible.+

-[JH]: We have lots of contextualized moments in target locations where there are moments that, when you go back and play with your returning character, you get series of lines that will acknowledge the experiences you’ve hadWhen we tackle the story, one of the challenges we had was about how serialized we wanted to be. We want to bring new fans into this franchise, but in doing so we need to make it accessibleSo, the experience of a new player in this sequence is to introduce the Taken as if you’d never heard of them before. We wanted to make sure a new player got who they were without being bogged down with too much lore. For a returning playerhowever, you’re going to see it’pretty different.+Destiny is a game with strong lore that does poor job of presenting it to playersThough Bungie vastly improved the game'story elements in The Taken King and Rise of Ironit's with Destiny 2 where the developer is looking to make it's biggest strides yetFeaturing a full-fledged campaign, Adventures that tell their own sidestory and new lore items, the story team in Bellevue, Washington have had their hands busy. We got to sit down the Matthew Ward and Jason Harrismembers of the Story and Cinematics team to discuss Destiny 2'plot.

-Seeing as so many Destiny players invested time and money into The Taken King and Rise of Iron, it’s understandable that they’d want to see some of that content return. Luckily, The Taken King is well represented in Destiny 2. Rise of Iron? Not so much. +Taking place on Nessus, one of the two new planets coming to Destiny 2, the strike in the Beta is called The Inverted Spire and focuses on a Vex mind that has been awoken by the CabalNessus is a neat world that kind of combines the aesthetics of the Vex and the Cabal since it was originally a machine world of the Vex's that has been invaded by the CabalThe planet itself also has a new look to itwith a muted gray landscapebut one with lush red trees everywhere. It's a really cool look that brings a new feel to the game.
-As the EDZ’s NPCDevrim provides relevant info and commentary while playing on Earth, and serves as the area’s vendor for purchasing new weapons and armor. He also serves as the area’s Faction Leader and will reward players with Legendary Engrams after earning enough Reputation with him. Reputation is earned through exploring and participating in activities throughout the areaDoing so will grant players area-specific tokens and materials that can then be traded into Devrim for Reputation. Once the bar is full, and you’re level 20, Devrim will give players the engramOnce collectedhe Reputation Bar will resetgiving players the chance to earn additional Legendary Engrams.+

-But anyway, the Inverted Spire is all about putting a stop to Protheon, the Modular MindTo get to himyou'll have to fight through hoards of Vex and Cabal who are also fighting each otherThey take you down into a dig sitewhere the Cabal have been looking for ProtheonIt's pretty straight forward, but there are some cool set pieceslike the dig site itself, which has you dodging huge drills as you descend, and Protheon'temple, which changes as the fight goes on.+With these sorts of compromises becoming commonplaceit’s no wonder that there are many gamers out there who’ve become afraid of the casual audience. More and more often they’re seeing niche series they enjoy getting compromised and simplified for the sake of attracting the casual playerAre they right to vilify the casual audience? Noabsolutely not . Like it or not, the casual audience is vital to gaming’s survival and it’s not the their fault that publishers are trying to get their attentionInstead of insulting and ridiculing casual playershardcore fans should be trying to bring them into the foldIn factpublishers and developers should be trying to do the same thing. Major departures like Fallout 4 and Dead Space 3 would better serve their creators and IP as side-games rather than mainline series entries. If a given publisher’s goal really is to expand a series’ player basethen use these sorts of games to attract people that can actually be converted into fans rather than simply going for the easy sale. They should be trying to create long-term customers rather than simply attract short-term guests. There is still great value to be found and lots of money to be made in the various genre niches. Their fans are passionate and are willing to support honest effort if it means getting more of what they love. It’just a matter of respecting them and the series they love when trying to increase their ranks.

-While including loot box that doesn’t award duplicates is better than only having completely random loot boxesdoing so doesn’t take away from the fact that Bungie’game is still highly encouraging its players to engage with loot boxes instead of actually earning lootIt also doesn’t take away from the fact that they’re still pushing random microtransactions in a game with a sixty dollars price tag and paid DLCWhat’more, they don'appear to see anything wrong with this.+While Destiny might not be your standard MMO because it’s also shooterit'nonetheless doing something similar to the likes of the original FFXIVDestiny is raising itself to the ground and just like a flower that finds way to bud up through the ashes, just maybe Destiny 2 will deliver on things its parent game couldn’t. By the likes of the new trailer , as flames consume the Last City and the Towers burn with it, it gives cause to rise up and begin the fight anew. This is time for Guardians new-and-old to band together and join in what is sure to continue a name of legacy, even if Destiny 2 Weekly Inventory didn’quite get everything right. Before any of that can begin, Destiny is turning it on and by far this is the best time to give it the send off it deserves.

-Each of the three Guardian Classes – HunterTitan and Warlock – come equipped with a brand new subclassAn Arcstrider Hunter becomes enveloped in Arc energy and unleashes attacks via an electrified staffSentinel Titans summon a shield constructed out of Void energywhich they can throw at enemies or use as melee weaponLastbut not least, is the Dawnblade Warlock who summons a Solar sword and rains fire from the skies.+[MW]: Well, let’s look at the Fallen. In our Age of Triumph Grimoire Cardswe’ve taken the time to advance their story and key into the current state of the factionThe Fallen have completely lose their house structureThe idea of the Kells and the different houses are gone nowand they’re just broken peopleSome of them have gathered together in the EDZand others are roaming the solar system. We’re able to really progress their story following the events of the previous games and expansions. Then we have the contextualized dialogue system to hint back to what you’ve done to them in the past.

-There'lot going on in this Betaeven though it's relatively small with not a lot to do. The changes so far are mostly positive, showing promise for the real thing. Destiny 2 comes to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on September 6 and then to PC on October 24, so there'not much time left.+Convinced yet, Guardian? Ready to come back to the fold instead of drinking your woes away locked in dark dingy Tower bar? Sure, you might see Cayde-6 roll on throughbut does he really have anything interesting to say yet? He’s just waiting for the action he has no idea is on the wayThe Cabal have been a long time coming and what better way to kick off Destiny 2 then an all-out assault on the place Guardians call home? Get it while it’hot Guardian, the Tower won’t be around for much longer and all that hard work you’ve put in over the years (or ignored), well either keep at it or kiss it good bye. See you in space, Guardian.
