-Casual players are the single largest audience in gaming; there’s no getting around itThis is the audience that every major publisher wants to appeal to; the one group that every development studio hopes will latch onto their gameAfter allcapturing the attention of the casual or mainstream audience usually means massive success and wondrous profit. So it’s understandable that theypublishers especially, would have vested interest in making their games more accessible and appealing to that audience. Making that appeal often means simplification. The simpler the game isthe more accessible it is, the more mainstream appeal it can have. While there’s nothing innately wrong with making one’s game more accessible to the wider gaming audience, doing so always comes at cost. Just as a game cannot be both simple and complexneither can it simultaneously serve its niche and successfully appeal to the mainstream audience. Therefore compromises must be made, usually ones that rob the game of what made it special in the first place.+Of all the things players can do in the open area, Adventures are the most story-drivenPresented on the map as an orange banner with a white sword, these activities task Guardians with following a series of objectivesStructurallyAdventures most resemble the mission design of missions from the original; get an objectivego clear out wave of enemieslisten to Ghost speculate bit, and battle a boss.

Speaking of enemies, Destiny 2 doesn’t add anything new to the mix. Each of the factions from the original game returns with a few new units, but they don’t change the fact that these are the same enemies we’ve been shooting for the past three years. Considering we’re exploring new, exotic worlds, it would have been nice to get some new enemy species thrown in. Speaking of enemies, Destiny 2 doesn’t add anything new to the mix. -Destiny 2 is what Destiny should have been, but its not what a sequel should have been. That isn’t to say it isn’t fun; in fact, the world of Destiny has never been more entertaining. Destiny 2 successfully adds plenty of quality of life improvements that make the game less of a grindAn in-game map, Faction Leaders and Public Event tracking make the game more rewarding. An actual campaigna good amount of Strikes, the Crucible and a plethora of side activities ensure that Destiny 2 will remain in your console’s disc-drive for a long time. In other aspectshowever, Destiny 2 feels more of an expansion than it does a sequel. The lack of new enemies is extremely disappointing, which means another few years of fighting enemies we’ve already fought for the past three. While the new worlds offer more spectacle and detail than anything in the Destiny 1 erathey still feel empty without NPCs or an increase in the player countThen, of course, there are the microtransactions,  [[https://Destiny2Focus.com/articles/rite-of-the-nine-loot-guide-my-hunt-for-god-rolls.html|Cold Comfort rocket launcher]] which gate the franchise’s best customization option behind either a paywall or, if you don’t want to pay, excessive grinding for Bright EngramsStill, Destiny 2 is fun. It may not be the huge sequel that initial leaks made it out to bebut it’s still more Destiny, and this time it’s far more refined and rewarding.+The story campaign has more missions and cinematics than youve ever seen in Destiny game. The player experience has more varietymore types of activities, and more ways for you to enjoy the experience by yourself, or with other playersIt isin terms of the action you’ll enjoy,  [[https://www.destiny2focus.com/articles/destiny-2-s-armor-3-0-revolutionizing-builds-in-edge-of-fate.html|Stat scaling system]] a more diverse experience than any Bungie game ever.

+Destiny nailed its gameplay mechanics perfectly out of the gate and those carry beautifully into Destiny 2. Aiming and shooting feel fantastic, while platforming has been tightened up with Guardians now able to clamber over ledges. Jumping is still a little floaty, but the clambering should help players avoid some unnecessary deaths.

-What does relationship mean for lore though? Of course, the actual relationship aspect of Destiny is therebut it’s always been thereDestiny 2 is not only creating worldsthoughit’s actually telling stories within those worlds. The people that inhabit these spaces are important and Bungie seems to be doing everything to make the player care about themFrom the looks of interaction with those around you while traversing the many environments Destiny 2 has to offerthe aspect of relationship is everywhere. Zavala giving command to the player and other NPCs around him. It creates a sense of urgency immediately invoking a compassion that only comes from feeling connected to othersThen there is the EDZ a new area for players to call home. The people they were protecting have started forming communities here. Actively participating in these places will create a more grounded sense of communityIt’s the reason WoW cities felt so lived in; the people that inhabit these spaces are going about their daily lives. It isn’t about, go out, kill aliens, return. It feels like being the Pavlovian dog waiting for the treat. None of that seems to be in Destiny 2.+Destiny came up short in many departments following its 2014 launchincluding explorationExploring EarthVenusMars and the Moon was supposed to be exciting, but ended up being a choreThe open areas of each planet were flatplain and lacked exciting activities to participate inThey were pretty but didn'have substance to keep players entertained outside of mindless busyworkThis is something Bungie is directly addressing with Destiny 2.

-Looking back at the original beta for vanilla Destiny, there was a tremendous amount to do and see, even some leveling involved. The Destiny 2 beta feels like Bungie is keeping their cards close to the chest because anything that could rock the boat might just tip it overDestiny is successful, but it comes with reputation, and scuffing up that reputation in anyway could make or break sales numbers once September rolls aroundThe beta gives enough of itself to put players at ease while also remaining the carrot and the stick. For Destiny fan, it’s easy enough to digest; take everything learned from Destiny and apply that to this beta, it’s a guaranteed good timeFor those who might be making their way back thoughthis might look more like a shooter than the online multiplayer game Bungie promisedWhile I can only speculate as to why the amount of content was significantly trimmed downit’s probably for good reason or itjust actually beta.+The most immediate change is the environment. The Tower always seemed like an elusive thing; my Guardian didn’t feel close to those she was supposedly protectingHow is one supposed to feel like hero when there really isn’t anyone worth saving? Heroes come in all shapes and sizes, whether fighting actual battles or just being that person someone looks up to, heroes aren’t made without those to protect. Although, it could be argued Guardians are more warriors…never mind, no need to go down that pathNeedless to say, Guardians are now invested in the people they are protecting; they are going out into the world and fighting back whatever might threaten community broken. It connects Guardians to something worth fighting for: relationship.
+Fallout 4 and Dead Space 3 were both the standout best sellers of their respective series. More gamers are familiar with these series thanks to their widespread success. On it’s own, this success is a good thingIn the case of Fallout at leastit means that the series has a future. Just like with Destiny 2, however, that success came with price. In the case of Fallout 4 , greater success and mainstream appeal came at the cost of its RPG depthInstead of defining what kind of character they want to play at the outset of the gameplayers can instead develop them as they play. The Sole Survivor’s identity is fluid. They can be anything and everything given enough time. Theyre basically competent in everything from the outset of the game and developing them is mostly just a matter of increasing their damage with/resistance to different types of weapons.

-While there no new classes, each of the three returning classes get a new subclassHunters get ArcstriderTitans get Sentinel and Warlocks get DawnbladeEach of the new subclasses is a joy to use and players can unlock their other Destiny 1 subclasses (GunslingerStriker and Voidwalker) and The Taken King subclasses (NightstalkerSunbreaker and Stormcaller) if the new ones aren't their cup of teaEach returning class has been tweaked to make them more viable in Destiny 2and both new and old are fun to play.+There were some 3v3 modes like Trials of OsirisWith Destiny 2we’ve met somewhere in the middleEvery game mode is 4v4 now instead of 3v3 or 6v6. We’ve created a scenario where every single player in the Crucible plays an important role on their team. We’ve placed an emphasis on strategyteamwork, and communicationYou’re going to think a lot about how you back each other uphow you play together.
