One of the unadvertised features of 'Send To' is that you can directly change the items that show up in the list. This is done by going to a specific folder and changing its contents. That folder is found in “Documents and Settings/yourusername.” Note: replace “yourusername” with whatever your user account name is on your computer. Here's what mine looks l
(By) Varun Kashyap, who is getting absent minded and forget to mention his name in the last two articles. And before he forgets, he would like to invite you to his TechCrazy Blog, where he writes about latest on the web, tech tips, tweaks and ha
The program can run on all Java-supported systems. If you're on Windows, simply download the installer and run it. The installation is automatic. For OS's other than Windows, download the file, unzip it, and run the executable jar f
Something like a computer in the corner will be just fine. This not only helps you to concentrate but more importantly from a security point of view it keeps shoulder surfers away from you. Needless to say don't enter passwords when some one is standing next to you, how uninterested he or she may pret
As you can see above, I cleaned out my folder so it only has a few items in it. Now I have the ability to create shortcuts to the Desktop, zip files, and send files to My Documents, My Pictures, and Screenshots. This last folder, 'Screenshots', I added by holding the Alt key while dragging Screenshots into the 'Send To' folder. This created a shortcut of the selected folder instead of moving it. If you don't feel comfortable with that hotkey, simply right click the desired item, click “New→Shortcut” and drag your new shortcut into the 'Send To' fol
SyncBack - We have already covered the SyncBack backup tool earlier, but basically, it's another backup software. Although the app has both free and paid versions, the free one has enough features for running local back
Click one of the computer names that you want to access. Choose “Remote Control” from the menu that shows up. Enter your buddy's password and you'll get remote access to that computer. The whole password situation used for Remote Control bothers me a bit. While this is fine if you are in a work/home scenario, this might not be a good idea in the “buddy” scenario as the Remobo password and the Remote Control password are the same. So if you know someone's remote control password, you know their account password. Kinda l
But then a serious virus infection almost destroyed the hard drive and I realised I was being stupid and things had to be tightened up. Ever since then, I have been paranoid about keeping the computer clean from viruses and making sure everything is tidy, organised and fast. Now today I make sure the following programs are updated daily and are used at least every second day. Knocking on wood, I haven't had a computer virus in four years or a spyware infection in two years. I am also a speed-freak, tweaking everything to make things go fas
Ad-Aware 2007 - I have been a huge fan of Ad-Aware for years but I am not so impressed with the new 2007 version which recently came out. Whereas the older version was very stable and very fast, the 2007 version is rather slow and the connection to the Lavasoft servers seems to disconnect rather easily. I am hoping though that these are minor teething problems that will soon be resolved because I am still in shock by the Spybot Search & Destroy program which really did search and destroy my system. In fact, Spybot nuked the Windows game Installation|Https://Windowsmastery.com/ OS by removing the wrong registry files!
Ad-Aware is updated daily by Lavasoft and you can run it to check your system for spyw
An even better alternative is DropBox , however since it's still in beta, you will have to wait for the next round of invites before you can get in. With DropBox you're also able to access your files from other PCs, keep them synchronized across multiple computers and even keep a detailed log of all changes made to the file and restore it to an earlier version. Quite useful for people who work from multiple locati
Remobo actually supports more than one PC per account, so you can have multiple entries under one buddy. This simply translates to the various computers of your buddy that you can access. This also means that you can use the same account on more than one computer. So you can have your work and home PC listed under the same usern
You will need to access the Local Security Policy, To access Local Security Policy, open Control Panel, double-click on Administrative Tools, and double-click on Local Security Policy. CCleaner : In case you're wondering, the extra “c” stands for “crap” and it is a very apt name as this program really does clean out the crap that accumulates in your hard-drive. Whether it is temp files, internet browser history, cookies, caches or needless registry entries, CCleaner finds them and deletes them. Just tick in the boxes what you want nuked and what you want left, and CCleaner does the rest - fast.
Before deleting anything from the registry, CCleaner gives you the option of making a back-up file in case anything of importance suddenly fails to start work
